(Scroll down for video) Tesco of Thailand, is being criticized after releasing an ad, which shows a rich woman slapping her teenage maid in the face for dropping potato chips on the floor.

Tesco Lotus, which is based in Bangkok, released the ad in order to advertise its cheap potato chips, but advocates for victims of domestic violence said that the scene of a maid being slapped in the face is unacceptable.

The scene features two characters, a rich woman and her maid.

The ad shows the maid dropping a bowl of chips while her boss was drinking tea in the garden of her home.

The rich woman reacted by standing up and screaming at the maid before slapping her in the face.

The ad, which was meant to be funny, then shows the maid dropping cheap potato chips on the floor and the rich woman laughing about it.

Shocked consumers have reacted angrily to the ad, saying it should be taken down.

A Tesco spokesperson said that it was not their intention to offend anyone and they apologized for any discomfort caused by the scene.

They promised to remove the scene showing the domestic violence from the ad in the future. Tesco Lotus serves 12 million customers each week through its 1,700 stores.

It has a force of 50,000 employees.
