A man who was arrested on a charge of escape, was sentenced to serve 18 months in prison for biting off his fingertips, prosecutors in Ohio said.
Prosecutors in Summit County, said that 24-year-old Kirk Kelly of Tampa, Florida, pleaded guilty to escape, tampering with evidence, obstructing official business and resisting arrest.
Kelly was pulled over at 3:00 a.m. by police. The car had expired tags. Police said that Kelly gave false names as they tried to identify him, but they recognized his tattoos from a photo that was sent to them by the police in Florida.
Kelly was wanted on a charge of violating probation for selling drugs and firearms.
Chief Ronald Williams said that when Kelly heard that officers were preparing to scan his fingerprints on a portable device, he bit off the skin.
