A man of South Korea, was arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly beating his wife on an airplane while celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said.
72-year-old Hyongtae Pae was detained at the Honolulu International Airport, after the flight heading to Japan, returned because of his violent behavior.
Pae told the FBI that he did not want to sit in his seat during meal service so he went to the back of the plane to do yoga and meditate.
He became angry when his wife and the United Airlines flight attendants told him to return to his seat. Pae pushed his wife because she was trying to stop him and he felt that she was sticking up for the flight crew.
He then assaulted passengers who tried to force him back to his seat. He threatened to kill passengers and was screaming that there was no god.
Pae was furious because he felt the flight crew was giving him orders. Pae is retired farmer who traveled to Hawaii, to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary.
It was the first trip to Hawaii for the couple. Pae recently took yoga classes to help with anxiety. He also claimed that he was sleep-deprived as a result of the vacation.
Pae told the FBI that had not slept in 11 days.
