Couple being chased by police die after ramming their car into a Super Hornet fighter jet

(Scroll down for video) Two suspected criminals who were being chased by police, died after ramming their car into a fight jet, police in California said.

California Highway Patrol officers in Kings County were chasing after a man and a woman who drove a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The chase ended after the driver rammed into a parked F/A-18E Super Hornet at the Naval Air Station Lemoore.

The driver of the vehicle was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died of his injuries, and the female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fighter jet suffered minimal damage.

According to the police investigation, the chase began on Wednesday night, after officers of the California Highway Patrol approached the vehicle for a welfare check.

The driver sped away, and the officers quickly followed. Officers stopped the chase when the driver began traveling in the wrong direction, but later resumed.

The vehicle then drove through the front door of the military base. As the vehicle drove along the runway, it crashed into the fighter jet.
