A young girl has died while riding on her favorite pony, police in the United Kingdom said.
Gloucestershire police said that 9-year-old Bonnie Armitage, died after another horse kicked her.
Paramedics were called to a farm around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. The girl is believed to have been out riding with Cotswold Hunt when the incident occurred.
She was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital in Gloucester, where she died of her injuries. Investigators believe that the girl was riding her pony in front of a larger horse, and at some point, that horse kicked her.
A spokesperson for Cotswold Hunt released the following statement, “Last Saturday’s Meet was overshadowed by the tragic death of 9-year-old Bonnie Armitage, who sustained what proved to be fatal injuries in an accident in the hunting field and slipped away after strenuous efforts by the Air Ambulance team and paramedics.
“A sense of overwhelming shock and sadness is with us all as we try to come to terms with the family’s shattering loss and grief, and we hope that the strength of our community together with the power of our prayers and the sincerity of our condolences will be of some comfort to the family.
“In truth, we find it hard to write this, as a young life lost is very hard to bear. We would also like to thank the emergency services who did their very best and all who did what they could.”
