An organization in Australia, that helps with the fight against AIDS, said that they were shocked to learn that a volunteer was detained and her condoms were seized because they are pornographic.

The head of the Northern Territory AIDS and Hepatitis Council said that she was scared and surprised after being detained at Bali’s airport because she was bringing hundreds of condoms into Indonesia.

CEO Kim Gates said the incident occurred when she was trying to give 720 condoms to an HIV organization in Bali. Denpasar Airport officials detained her and confiscated the condoms.

Officials asked if she had a permit to bring in the condoms, and they complained that she had not told them about her shipment on her arrival card.

The customs agents then said that the condoms are pornographic and cannot be allowed in the country. Gates said that she has important partner agencies in Bali, which need to get the condoms because there is a high rate of HIV.

She also said that many Australians go to Indonesia on vacation, and they bring home HIV.
