Police in South Africa, arrested a 15-year-old boy after impregnating his 12-year-old girlfriend.

The girl’s parents of KwaZulu-Natal, initially called police after they thought their daughter had been abused by an older man when they realized that she was pregnant.

They went to the police station to open a case of rape. However, during their investigation, police learned that the girl was in a consensual relationship with the 15-year-old boy.

The boy was arrested for questioning as police want to determine if the sexual encounter was truly consensual. The boy was then released into the care of his parents.

Some people blamed the government for giving children too many rights. According to the Sexual Offences Act of 2007, children 12 years of age and older are allowed to have sex, provided it is consensual.

Jackie Branfield, CEO and founder of Bobbi Bear, an organization that helps sexually abused children, said that she would like to see the consenting age go up to 18.

Social workers were notified about the pregnancy and they are also conducting an investigation.

Captain Ntombi Gwala said that both parents of the children do not want to continue with the case. However, they are waiting for the preliminary report from the social workers.
