Martinez police said that they have arrested 36-year-old Joel Steffensen, after being accused of breaking into a home and stealing a ring before swallowing it.
Steffensen was charged with burglary, evasion of police officers and resisting arrest. He was booked into jail, and his bail was set at $1.3 million.
According to the police investigation, Steffensen broke into a home and stole a wedding ring. The owner called the police, and officers chased after him as he tried to escape.
Steffensen crashed his car into a fence, while he was trying to speed away. After the accident, an x-ray revealed that he had the ring in his esophagus.
Police ordered doctors to remove it. Doctors removed the ring and it was later identified by the owner of the home.
