The City of Ione Police Department said that officials at the Ione Junior High School, called them on Monday, to report that students were acting suspiciously with pink candy.

Staff members noticed one student looking at the candy and placing it near the nose. They then saw another student taking the pink candy and snorting it as well.

The police were called and the students were questioned.

“A student at the Ione Junior High School, was found to be in possession of a pink tablet. The student claimed the tablet was a Smarties candy.

“However, upon a subsequent test of the tablet, it tested positive for MDMA/Methamphetamines. The Ione Police Department was contacted and an investigation was conducted.

“Although the Ione Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident, the investigation is continuing. The Ione Police Department is currently working with the school to ensure the safety of the students, and will be inviting parents and school staff to an upcoming meeting in order to address the issue and provide information about illegal drugs in the community.”
