The owner of a bar was arrested on a charge of inflicting injury after allegedly using pliers to pull out a tooth of an employee as a joke, police in Japan said.

Hokkaido police said that they have arrested 26-year-old Hiroki Tsuchiya, after being accused of abusing his 40-year-old employee in front of other workers.

Tsuchiya was charged with one count of inflicting injury.

According to the police investigation, after the employee complained about a cavity in his tooth, Tsuchiya took pliers and used it to remove a tooth from the lower jaw.

Tsuchiya told investigators that he and the employee were joking around and the tooth was loose. Police are investigating whether the employee was regularly abused by his boss.
