People in the United Kingdom, are angry after learning the child services decided to hand over several children to the custody of their mother despite the fact that she killed her baby by falling asleep on top of him while drunk.
The 5-month-old boy was found dead after being kept in disturbing conditions in his parents’ home located in Coventry.
According to the police investigation, the boy identified in court documents as Child E, died after his mother fell asleep on top of him following a night of drinking alcoholic beverages.
The mother was woken up by another child who was screaming the baby’s name. The baby was brought to the Coventry’s University Hospital, where doctors found dirt in his ears, armpits and fingernails.
He was pronounced dead on arrival. The baby died as a result of asphyxiation. Traces of cocaine and alcohol were found in the child’s blood.
The parents were not charged in connection with the child’s death despite the fact that both have a history of alcohol and drug abuse.
Investigators said that there was also evidence of possible neglect and domestic violence.
However, after the mother expressed her passionate commitment to the children and their welfare, she was handed over custody of her three children who were removed from the home following the death of the baby.
The mother admitted that her previous behavior were not ideal, and she has made great efforts to change her lifestyle.
