Man dies while riding lawn mower with one man on hood and another dragging along in wheelchair

A man died while taking a joyride on a lawn mower and giving his friends a ride.

Wilbert J. Bourque Jr., 41, who was driving the lawn mower in Louisiana, when a van crashed into him, according to Rayne Chief of Police Carroll J. Stelly.

Bourque died and the two others were injured in the incident.

Police said that Bourque was driving the lawn mower while one man was riding on the hood and another man was traveling in a wheelchair and was holding on to the lawn mower from behind, causing him to be pulled along for the ride.

Police said they received a call around 8:30 p.m. about the accident.

Bourque was hit from behind by a Ford truck as he was driving down American Legion Drive. He was taken to the Acadia General Hospital, where he later died.

The second victim was transported by an AirMed Helicopter to Lafayette General Hospital, and the third victim was also taken to Acadia General Hospital.
