Mother allows bugs to eat her 1-year-old daughter alive

A mother was arrested on a charge of murder after neglecting her young daughter until she died of multiple injuries, police in Mexico said.

Now, 20-year-old Mariana Lizeth Salas Hernandez of Chihuahua, has been sentenced to serve 30 years in prison after being convicted of murder in connection with the death of 1-year-old Luna Estefania.

She was also ordered to pay a fine of $15,300.

According to the police, Estefania was found by child care workers living under terrible conditions after being severely neglected by her mother.

Estefania has not been fed for 15 days. The girl had been paralyzed due to a fall she suffered when she was 2 months old.

Police and social workers were called by neighbors who noticed that the mother was not taking care of her child. Police found the child in a severe state of malnutrition and her body was covered in ants.

The bugs have eaten parts of her body. The girl was rushed to a hospital, where she died of her wounds.
