(Scroll down for video) It was a very sad day for a family, who lost two members in a very short time.
Police in Florida, have confirmed that the father of a 6-year-old girl died while saving her from drowning just hours before the funeral of his own father.
28-year-old William (Bill) Moritz was at the beach in Jacksonville, when a strong current began to pull his daughter Maddy underwater.
The father managed to rescue her before he drowned on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. Lifeguards pulled him from the water, and both, father and daughter, were rushed to a hospital, where Moritz was pronounced dead.
Maddy survived. She was treated and released from the hospital on Saturday night.
His family said that Mortiz came to Florida from Michigan, for his father’s memorial service that was supposed to take place on the same beach, where the tragedy occurred.
Mortiz was very close to his father who died two weeks earlier, a family member said.
Lifeguards said that the waves were extremely dangerous at the time, and they had rescued several others.
The Moritz family canceled their father's funeral for that day.
