(Scroll down for video) A man died after jumping out of an ambulance and into heavy traffic on a highway, police in Georgia said.

Atlanta police said that the patient was restrained in the ambulance before running across several lanes of traffic.

As 22-year-old Andrew Hill was running back to the ambulance, he was struck and killed by a Honda Accord.

The incident occurred as the patient was being teleported to the Grady Memorial Hospital for an evaluation early on Monday morning.

He suddenly became agitated and removed his restraints. The ambulance stopped on the shoulder of the highway before the patient got out and ran across five lanes of traffic.
