A girl prompted a major police search after calling 911 to report that she was being kidnapped.

Police in San Antonio, Texas, said that the 10-year-old girl might be arrested for filing a false report that she had been kidnapped.

Bexar County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson James Keith said that police received a call on Tuesday morning from the girl, who said that she had been kidnapped and she was forced into the trunk of a car.

BCSO deputies and East Central Independent School District officers worked together in an effort to quickly locate and rescue the child.

Detectives were eventually able to track down the girl. She was found inside the Oak Crest Intermediate School after 7:00 a.m.

Detectives said that the girl admitted that she made up the story and she lied about being kidnapped.

“It is unclear why the girl made the call. Although we are disappointed that the 911 system was abused, we are happy that no one was hurt and the child is safe,” Keith said.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the child is expected to face charges for filing a false report and abusing the 911 system.
