A distraught man set himself on fire before running into his former girlfriend's house.

Police in Augusta, Georgia, said that the man had reportedly been involved in a domestic dispute with his former girlfriend.

According to his Facebook page, Steven Valakos, 37, has been in a relationship with the woman for 10 months.

Valakos was kicked out of the house at 1206 Eisenhower Drive, where he had been living with the woman. He set himself on fire outside the home and then ran inside after the woman broke up with him.

“He was not supposed to be living in the home anymore,” Lt. Allan Rollins said.

However, Valakos seemed to be very distressed over the breakup and allegedly committed suicide by burning himself alive in front of his girlfriend.

“At 8:00 a.m. on Friday, the Richmond County Fire Department joined deputies in responding to a fire alarm call. They soon discovered that Valakos had set himself on fire and ran into the house,” Lt. Rollins said.

Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen ruled the death as a suicide, and he said that the cause of death was “full body thermal injuries.”

Valakos died at the Joseph M. Still Burn Center, where he was treated. The Richmond County Fire Department, the Coroner’s Office and the Sheriff’s Department are still investigating the incident.

The woman was treated for smoke inhalation.
