A woman was arrested on a charge of attempted murder after trying to kill her husband twice, police in Australia said.
Melbourne police have arrested 53-year-old Joanne De Bono, after being accused of mixing 75 sleeping pills into her husband’s meatballs in order to put him to sleep forever.
She was charged with one count of attempted murder.
According to the police investigation, the suspect and the victim, Stephen De Bono, have been married for 25 years. They have one daughter together.
The woman claimed that her husband was very abusive.
The Melbourne Magistrate's Court heard how Joanne De Bono conspired with her 19-year-old daughter to put Stephen De Bono to sleep forever by mixing sleeping pills into his dinner.
The 75 sleeping pills knocked the man into a deep sleep, but he woke up several hours later. Several weeks later, Joanne De Bono went into the family shed, and took brake fluid, motor oil, and weed killer.
She poured them into a bowl, and filled a long syringe with the deadly cocktail. She then slid the needle into her sleeping husband's arm and pushed.
Luckily, Stephen De Bono woke up and asked her what she was doing. His wife and daughter fled from the house and told their relatives what they did.
Paramedics immediately rushed to the house, and the husband was rushed to the hospital, where he was treated and released.
Joanne De Bono told investigators that she was the victim of continuous physical, emotional, and sexual abuse.
