A man was arrested on a charge of distributing child pornography after being caught in possession of more than 1,000 child pornography photos, police in Texas said.
Now, 38-year-old Reynaldo Ramirez of Corpus Christi, faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to distributing child pornography photos.
According to the police, officers raided the home of Ramirez, after they became suspicious about his online activity. Police found hard drives containing more than 1,000 images of child pornography photos.
They also found a Santa Claus costume in his closet. According to investigators, Ramirez performed for children as Santa Claus for the past 15 years.
Ramirez admitted that he had been viewing child pornography for about six years. He told police he had downloaded more than 1,000 images of child pornography ranging in ages from toddlers to pre-teens.
Ramirez also admitted to sexually assaulting a 4-year-old child.
U.S. District Judge Nelva Gonzales Ramos accepted Ramirez’s guilty plea. Ramirez faces a minimum of five and up to 20 years in federal prison, and a possible $250,000 maximum fine.
After he completes his prison term, Ramirez also faces a maximum of life on supervised release during which time the court can impose a number of special conditions designed to protect children and prohibit him from using the Internet.
