The principal of a school was fired after reportedly coming late to work.
The New York school principal was known for her love of driving a BMW, sporting fur coats and regularly showing up late to school.
Mothers and students of PS 106 in Far Rockaway, said that Principal Marcella Sills, was hardly ever seen at school before 11:00 a.m.
Sills was finally fired for “committing theft of time” after it was discovered that she arrived several hours late on 178 occasions over a period of year and a half, but she never reported her lateness and she was paid for the time she was not there.
Sills had 10 days under state law to appeal her termination. However, she filed a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court 88 days late.
Her lawsuit states that her work contract with the city does not set a start and end time for her workday and therefore, she cannot be fired for being late.
Her lawyer, Douglas Rosenthal, admitted that the lawsuit was filed late, but he is asking the judge to make an exception for Sills “in the interests of justice.”
While Sills was principal, PS 106 was under investigation for the lacking basics such as books for the Common Core curriculum.
Instead of having a library, gym and art classes, the students watched movies. 98 percent of the children of the school qualify for free lunch as they are poor.
Sills was principal of the school for about 9 years, and earned $128,000 plus overtime pay each year.
