A man checked himself into a hospital after discovering a hole in his arm while changing his shirt, according to police in Florida.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said that officers were called to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial on Saturday, after 37-year-old Michael Blevins discovered a bullet hole in his arm.

Blevins told officers that he was sitting and cleaning his .22-caliber pistol in the living room of his house on Thursday, when it accidentally fired a shot.

He held the gun against his chest to keep it away from his dog.

As Blevins got up, he felt a sharp pain, causing him to fall. He then heard a loud shot and then hit his face against the edge of a glass coffee table.

Blevins said that he felt no pain from the bullet, possibly due to taking medicine for a back injury. Blevins was wearing a black shirt, and did not notice the injury to his left arm.

On Saturday, when Blevins put on a light brown shirt, he noticed blood stains. Blevins removed his shirt and noticed an entry and exit point in the arm.

Officers accompanied Blevins home after being discharged from the hospital and determined that the gun went off accidentally.

No charges have been filed.
