Lakeland police said that 21-year-old Jesse Kinsinger, was taken to the Lakeland Regional Health Center, after a 10-foot-long alligator ripped off his left hand while trying to flee from police.

According to the police investigation, Kinsinger had an argument with his mother, Rena Kinsinger, on Wednesday night.

The mother called the police because she feared that her son, who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, is getting out of control.

When officers arrived, Rena said that her son needed psychological help and was having an episode related to post-traumatic stress.

Has it been on medication since he was shot during a home invasion. Police searched around the area using a helicopter and dogs.

Jesse was found lying on the ground near a lake behind the house with most of his left arm missing. Kinsinger was taken to Lakeland Regional Center of Health for treatment.

He had multiple surgeries, and is expected to survive, though he may lose his entire arm. The family is trying to raise $100,000 for a prosthetic arm.
