(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested on a charge of kidnapping after allegedly restraining a young girl in the bathroom of a restaurant and choking her, causing her to pass out, according to police in Illinois.
The Chicago Police Department said that they have arrested 33-year-old Reese Hartstirn, after being accused of choking the 8-year-old girl as her mother was waiting for her outside the bathroom.
Hartstirn has been charged with aggravated kidnapping of a child, aggravated battery of a child, battery causing bodily harm and aggravated assault of a peace officer.
He was booked into the Central District station, where he is being held without bail.
According to the police investigation, the girl was with her mother at the Jason’s Deli located in the 1200 block of South Canal Street on Saturday, when the incident occurred.
The girl was inside the bathroom around 1:15 p.m., when her mother heard her scream. When the mother entered the bathroom, she saw Hartstirn choking the girl and trying to lock her in the stall.
Other people at the restaurant detained the suspect until the police arrived. The girl was taken to the Comer Children's Hospital for treatment.
While being booked into jail, Hartstirn punched a police officer.
