Boulder County police said that they have arrested 59-year-old Jon Marc Barbour, after being accused of shooting his neighbor because he told him to stop feeding the squirrels as children in the neighborhood are allergic to nuts.

Barbour has been charged with second-degree attempted murder and assault. He was booked into jail, where he is being held without bail.

According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Thursday, in the area of Willon Lane, where Barbour dumped a large amount of peanuts for squirrels.

Barbour and his 40-year-old neighbor got into an argument about squirrels and brochures that Barbour had accused the man of tearing down.

After an exchange of words, Barbour shot the man in the behind before calling the police, saying that he just shot him.

Neighbors told Barbour that it was not healthy to feed wild animals and some children may suffer dangerous allergic reactions to the peanuts.

The victim, was taken to a hospital, where he is being treated.
