A woman gave birth to a baby girl after dying in a car crash while her husband drove her to a hospital, according to doctors in Missouri.

26-year-old Sarah Iler of Cape Girardeau, was being driven to the hospital by the father of the baby girl, Matt Rider, when a tanker truck slammed into their SUV.

Police officers who arrived at the scene, administered CPR with the hope of saving Iler and her baby.

Iler was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, but doctors performed an emergency Caesarean section and delivered her daughter, Maddyson.

The newborn was removed from a ventilator on Friday, but doctors do not yet know if she suffered brain damage due to the lack of oxygen.

Rider was seriously injured, but is recovering.

“Iler passed away from a tragic car accident. She was 39 weeks pregnant with Maddyson. Maddyson is currently in critical condition, but she has continued to make steady improvements.

“Sarah didn't have life insurance, which makes this much harder. Due to that, we have to come up with the money to fund her funeral. We are trying to collect $9,000 to pay for the funeral and expenses for Maddyson,” the family wrote on GoFundMe.
