A thief was arrested after being accused of threatening to infect an Uber driver with HIV before stealing his wallet and cellphone, according to police in Florida.
Boca Raton police said that they have arrested 30-year-old Matthew Francis, after being accused of pulling out a syringe and telling the driver to drive or otherwise be injected with HIV.
The incident unfolded on Saturday night, as the Uber driver was parked outside the 7-Eleven located at 831 E. Palmetto Park Road.
In fear of being infected, the driver did as he was told. Francis then told the driver to stop, and demanded his cellphone, wallet and car keys.
The driver gave his cellphone and wallet, but did not hand over the keys to the car. Francis then took off, police said.
After Francis was arrested, he told police that he had been using heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine throughout the day.
