It was a devastating moment for a tow truck driver when he discovered that a fatal accident victim was his girlfriend.

The tow truck driver, Jerome Tarver of Michigan, is used to cleaning up after tragic car accidents.

However, nothing prepared him for the shock of finding his girlfriend as the victim.

Tarver's girlfriend of three years, 26-years-old Jerrica Hicks, was driving home from a birthday party in Detroit around 2:30 a.m., when she was hit by a drunk driver.

Police said that 31-year-old Johnathon Horton, drove a pickup truck at 100 miles per hour when he smashed into Hicks’ Dodge Neon.

Hicks was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead. She leaves behind a 9-year-old son.

Tarver, 37, said that he noticed the smashed up burgundy car and almost immediately knew that it belonged to his girlfriend. “It was like a nightmarish dream,” he said.

Horton faces charges of manslaughter using a motor vehicle and operating while under the influence, causing death.
