A divorced woman in Italy, said that she was shocked to learn that pizza can be considered as a form of child support.
Nicoletta Zuin of Padua, divorced her husband, 50-year-old Nicola Toso.
The couple had one daughter, and Zuin got custody of the child while Toso, the manager of a pizza shop, was ordered to pay 400 euros ($444) a month in child support.
At first, Toso made the required payments. After falling on hard times, Toso offered his former wife pizza and other baked goods in the amount of 400 euros in lieu of child support payments.
Zuin rejected the offer, and filed a complaint with the police.
Charges were filed against Toso, but a judge ruled that giving away pizza is an appropriate way to pay child support because he had fallen on hard times.
The couple’s daughter, is now living with her father, his new girlfriend and three children after the relationship with her mother deteriorated.
As a result, the court has ordered Zuin to pay 300 euros ($333) a month in child support.
