Caregiver beats 91-year-old man in the head with oxygen tank after having argument over money

(Scroll down for video) A caregiver was arrested on a charge of attempted murder after allegedly beating an elderly man with an oxygen tank and leaving him to die in a pool of blood, according to police in Florida.

North Port police said that they have arrested 45-year-old Elena Erickson, after being accused of using her patient's oxygen tank to beat him on the head in an attempt to kill him.

Erickson has been charged with attempted murder and tampering with evidence. She was booked into the Sarasota County jail, and her bail was set at $300,000.

According to the police, Erickson called 911 on Monday around 8:00 a.m., to report that her patient, 91-year-0old Michael Nicholas Tristano, was lying unconscious in the living room.

Tristano was taken to the Venice Regional Bayfront Health center, where he treated for several days and released. Police searched the house, but they found no signs of forced entry.

They did however, find a portable oxygen tank that was covered in blood. Tristano told investigators that the night he was attacked, he and Erickson were discussing an upcoming payment.

Around 9:30 p.m., Erickson hit him on the head twice with the oxygen tank while he sat at the dining room table. Around 10:30 p.m., she hit him again with the oxygen tank.

Tristano fell to the ground, and began moving in and out of consciousness. The following morning, Erickson called 911.
