Police in New York, were called to an apartment in the Bronx, after a man tried to rape the homeowner and her sister.
43-year-old Earl Nash managed to gain entry into the building and asked people for water, but he was ignored.
He then knocked on the victim’s door, and when the 51-year-old woman opened, Nash forced himself inside and removed her clothes.
The woman and her sister begged Nash to leave and they offered him money. He allegedly said that he does not want their money, and told them that he was going to rape them.
The homeowner and her sister fought off Nash long enough for her to call her husband, 61-year-old Mamadou Diallo.
When Diallo got home, the suspect was already outside and he was leaving the building. The 61-year-old man beat Nash with a tire iron inside his Bronx apartment building elevator.
Nash died at the Lincoln Hospital from severe trauma to his head and body about three hours later. Nash has a long criminal history, according court records.
Diallo, who works as a cab driver, was arrested and charged with manslaughter. A judge freed Diallo on his own recognizance.
His friends and neighbors arrived to the courthouse and cheered as Diallo walked out. They said that Diallo is an upstanding citizen who just wanted to protect his wife, who suffered minor injuries during the horrific ordeal.
