A woman was jailed for stealing nude photos from a girl and posting it to the Internet.
Michelle Renee McCoy, 49, of Missouri, pleaded guilty in a plea agreement before Judge David P. Rush, to possessing of child pornography.
Prosecutors said that McCoy, who is an acquaintance of the 15-year-old girl, looked through the victim’s phone and found nude photos.
McCoy sent the photos to her own phone and then posted them on the girl’s Facebook page to “shame her and teach her a lesson.”
McCoy then changed the Facebook password so the victim could not remove the nude photos from her own account.
The girl was eventually able to reset her password and she closed her Facebook account.
McCoy’s lawyer asked the judge to sentence her to probation because “she is not a typical child pornographer.”
“What Mrs. McCoy did was mean and stupid. She is already been punished in a variety of ways, including lifetime registration as a sex offender. Prison will not erase the victim’s embarrassment or hurt,” the attorney said.
Prosecutors argued that the victim was humiliated. Her family and friends, some of whom are minors, saw the sexually explicit photos.
Prosecutors were seeking a three year prison term, but the judge sentenced her to one year in prison and she was ordered to register as a sex offender.
