A stepmother was arrested on a charge of child abuse after allegedly burning the tongues of two children as a form of punishment, according to police in Texas.

Burkburnett police said that they have arrested 24-year-old Sara Woody, after she and her husband were accused of abusing the two children.

Woody has been charged with 30 counts of child abuse. She was booked into the Wichita County jail, and her bail was set at $3 million.

Her husband, 34-year-old Jonathan Woody, was also arrested and charged with four counts of child abuse. According to the police investigation, Sara punished her stepchildren by burning their tongues with a lighter because they lied.

She also forced them drink a fluid that caused them to vomit because they stole food. The children are 7 and 12 years old.

On several occasions, Sara made the two children lick dirty toilet bowls. The abuse came to light three months ago, when one of the children was taken to a hospital with an injury.
