(Scroll down for video) An animal lover was surprised when he was told that his good deed caused harm to an animal.

Two animal lovers were also arrested and charged over an attempt to help the baby bison.

Shamash and Shakeel Kassam of Canada, were touring the United States, when they spotted a baby bison near the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming.

The father and son saw the bison that was wet and shivering. The animal came close to their car’s engine in an apparent attempt to keep warm.

At first, the animal lovers drove off, but Shamash, who was a farmer in Africa, felt bad, knowing that the animal does not have a chance to survive.

They returned, placed the bison in their vehicle and drove it to a ranger at the Yellowstone National Park.

However, instead of helping the bison, the park rangers euthanized it because “human interaction causes the animal to be rejected by its herd.”

The park rangers also said that they don’t have the capacity to raise the animal.

Federal Magistrate Mark Carman at the Yellowstone Justice Center, ordered Shamash Kassam to pay $500 to the Yellowstone Park Foundation Wildlife Protection Fund, serve six months of unsupervised probation and pay a $200 fine.

Many people have criticized the Yellowstone National Park for euthanizing the animal.
