(Scroll down for video) Shoppers gathered to witness the incredible scene of a moose giving birth in public.

Men, women and children stopped what they were doing to watch the moose that went close to a car for shade and gave birth to a calf.

The birth took place in the parking lot of a Lowe’s Home Improvement store in Anchorage, Alaska.

Employees from Lowe’s along with security staff from the Tikahtnu Commons shopping center, blocked off a section of the parking lot to create a safe zone around the mother and baby.

Ken Marsh, spokesperson for Alaska Department of Fish and Game, said that officials were contacted by Anchorage police and wildlife officers, and were on standby in case the animals appeared to be in need of assistance.

People watched as the calf took its first steps. The animals stayed in the store’s parking lot for a few hours before walking away together.
