(Scroll down for video) People in a gated community were horrified to learn that their homes are not as safe as they thought.

This came after a woman pretended to be a mermaid while swimming in water.

She then swam up to nice homes in the gated community in Vilano Beach, Florida, and entered them.

One homeowner found 33-year-old Tonya Gerlach, in her home and asked what she was doing. According to police, Gerlach claimed that she worked at the home.

When the homeowner told Gerlach that she was not employed there, she ran away. She returned to the neighborhood the next day, but police were unable to find her.

Gerlach was arrested the day after the second incident when she got into a dispute with her roommate. The roommate told police that Gerlach bragged about breaking into homes.
