A couple was arrested on a charge of fraud after allegedly running up a large restaurant bill before fleeing without paying, according to police in Canada.

Manitoba police said that they have arrested the 29-year-old man and his 33-year-old wife, who were not identified, after being accused of abandoning their 10-year-old daughter at the restaurant because they did not want to pay the bill.

They were both charged with one count of fraud. The two were booked into the Brandon Correctional Centre, pending a bail hearing.

According to the police, officers were called to the restaurant on Tuesday night, after the husband and wife ran up a tab of $135 and refused to pay.

They then fled from the scene, but left behind their 10-year-old daughter. Police handed the girl over to the Child and Family Services.

Police searched the area, and they found the intoxicated couple several hundred feet away from the restaurant.
