A police officer of the United Kingdom, found himself on the wrong side of the law over a hat he was wearing while on duty.

The North Yorkshire Police Department announced that it will hold its first ever public misconduct hearing against the police officer who is accused of using an offensive hat while on duty.

The wool hat had the words “I love weed” on it.

The three-day hearing for Constable Simon Ryan, will be broadcast live at the police headquarters in Northallerton.

Police forces across the country have been ordered to conduct misconduct hearings in public since last year, as part of a government plan to make them more transparent.

Officer Ryan, who has served for more than a decade, will have to answer as to why he wore the “I love weed” hat during his shift despite the fact that he was ordered to take it off.

If found guilty of gross misconduct, he could be fired.

A colleague of Ryan, said that it was done as a joke and in good spirit.
