Police are looking to arrest a priest on a charge of assault after allegedly punching the groom’s brother in the face because he slapped the best man during the wedding ceremony, according to police in Cyprus.

Tsada police said that the groom’s 22-year-old brother was taken to hospital after suffering heavy bleeding from the nose, but he did not suffer serious injuries.

According to the police investigation, the incident unfolded on Saturday, when one of the best men was slapped on the back by the groom's brother during the Isaiah Dance while circling the altar three times.

The priest first gestured with his hand for the groom’s bother to stop, but when he did not listen, he got frustrated and angry. He put down his prayer book, and punched the groom’s brother in the face several times, causing his nose to bleed.

The groom's father then went after the priest, but was restrained. When everyone calmed down, the ceremony was completed but the priest disappeared.

The victim filed a complaint with the police, but so far, the priest was not arrested.
