An artist who invited strangers to fondle her genitals in public, has been arrested in Trafalgar Square.
Controversial artist Milo Moire, had been traveling around Europe with her “Mirror Box,” which allows strangers to touch her private parts and breasts.
She said that the art project is designed to promote women’s rights and equality.
Moire has two separate mirror boxes, one to cover her private parts and the other to cover her breasts.
The mirror boxes have a rectangular opening at the front and is closed off by a red curtain.
She uses a megaphone to invite passersby to reach into the opening to touch her nude body. Each person has 30 seconds to do so. Interestingly enough, there were a number of older women who chose to publicly touch Moire’s breast.
“I am standing here today for women’s rights and sexual self-determination. Women have a sexuality just like men have one. However, women decide for themselves when and how they want to be touched and when they don’t,” Moire said on the loudspeaker.
Moire took the performance to different cities, but when she was at the Trafalgar Square in London, police arrived and arrested her.
She was detained for 24 hours. She then went before a judge and pleaded guilty to outraging public decency.
Moire said that she was ordered to pay a “hefty fine,” but she did not disclose the amount.
