A man was arrested on a charge of burglary after allegedly stealing cash from cars in order to have money to buy pizza, according to police in Illinois.
Riverside police said that they have arrested 21-year-old Dany Y. Ortiz, after admitting to being addicted to pizza and stealing cash to support his addiction.
Ortiz was charged with burglary of a motor vehicle. According to the police investigation, several cars were burglarized in Cicero over the past two weeks.
One victim was able to provide police with a license plate of a suspicious vehicle, and another victim handed over a video, showing Ortiz entering his vehicle in the driveway of his home.
In the video, Ortiz is seen wearing pajamas and slippers. During questioning, Ortiz admitted to burglarizing the vehicles. He told investigators that he was a pizza lover and wanted to try different types of pizza.
Ortiz still wanted to purchase pizza from several shops, but he had no money left. That is when he decided to take cash from unlocked vehicles.
Ortiz would steal cash from unlocked vehicles between 5:00 and 7:00 a.m. He left behind laptops, iPads and other electronic equipment.
