Police are looking to arrest a group of men who were accused of beating a father to near death for refusing to hand over his daughter for a female genital mutilation procedure, according to police in Nigeria.

Olalowo Hammed and Modinat Olalekan had been threatened by the community elders and neighbors after refusing hand over their daughter for the traditional circumcision ceremony.

Modinat and her daughter were able to flee from the country, but Olalowo Hammed was not so lucky. As he was preparing to leave, a group of men surrounded his home, and beat him to near death.

Olalowo Hammed was then dumped in the woods, and left to die. Luckily, Olalowo Hammed survived and called for help.

Olalowo Hammed suffered from cuts all over his body, and from a swollen face. He was taken to a hospital, where he is being treated.

So far, no arrests have been made. Some people claim that Olalowo Hammed made up the story in order to be able to gain asylum in another country.
