(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested on a charge of unlawful possession and manufacturing of a chemical weapon of mass destruction after being accused of building a chemical weapon inside a store and planning to detonate it while crowded with shoppers, according to police in California.
Oxnard police said that they have arrested 31-year-old Martin Reyes, after being accused of using items in a Walmart store to build the chemical weapon.
He was booked into the Ventura County Main Jail, pending a bail hearing. On Saturday, police and firefighters responded to the Walmart at 2701 Saviers Road, regarding a suspicious device.
According to the police investigation, Reyes went to the store after conducting research online on how to build a lethal chemical weapon.
Once inside the store, Reyes used items in the store, including some type of electronic device, to build the weapon. Reyes then used a plug near the stationary section to detonate the bomb and release toxic gases.
The device could have caused a lot of damage, police said. Store employees noticed Reyes, and they called 911. Police evacuated the store.
