Mainpuri police said that they have arrested Ashok Mishra, who is the owner of a grocery store, after being accused of killing Bharat, 45, and his wife Mamta, 41, in front of their children, aged 11, 9, and 8.

Mishra’s wife was also arrested on a charge of obstruction for refusing to open the door for police.

According to the police investigation, the incident began on Monday, when the couple bought three packages of biscuits for their three children.

The couple did not have the 22 cents to pay for the biscuits and asked the owner of the grocery to wait until the end of the week when they get their weekly wages.

Mishra agreed, but he confronted the couple on Thursday morning, and asked for the 22 cents. The couple asked Mishra to wait until the evening as they will get paid.

Mishra pulled out an ax and hacked the couple to death.
