Grandmother caught smuggling phones into prison hidden inside potato chip bags

A grandmother was arrested after she was caught smuggling items into prison concealed inside potato chip bags, according to police in the United Kingdom.

Now, 46-year-old Michelle Pugh of Longford, has been sentenced to serve 2 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of conveying restricted articles into prison.

According to the criminal complaint, Pugh was caught at the Bedford prison, passing two mobile phones hidden in potato chip bags to a prisoner she had never met before.

She was arrested and released on bail, but six weeks later, she was visiting another prisoner at the Lowdham Grange prison in Nottingham, with the intention of passing him packages filled with illegal drugs.

Police found a large quantity of very strong heroin along with cannabis resin and illegal high drugs. As a result, she was arrested a second time and banned from visiting any prisons in the country.
