13-year-old drunk boy drives car with his intoxicated grandmother in the backseat

(Scroll down for video) A boy is facing charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI) for driving while he was drunk.

Deputies in New Mexico, said that they were surprised to find a drunk 13-year-old boy behind the wheel of a car while his intoxicated grandmother was in the back seat.

Santa Fe Deputy Clay Cullison pulled over the blue 1994 Oldsmobile, after spotting it weaving on the road.

Cullison found the 13-year-old unlicensed and drunk boy behind the wheel.

Deputies said that the boy’s grandmother, 52-year-old Sanjuana Mercado-Mendez,was highly intoxicated. A 15-year-old girl was also in the vehicle.

A deputy found two open cans of beer inside the car.

Market-Mendez was charged with suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, child abuse and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

She was booked in the county jail at 3 a.m.

Deputies also arrested the 13-year-old boy. According to the sheriff’s office, he refused to take a blood test.

Although legally too young to drive, he still faces charges of aggravated DWI, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, driving without a license, failure to maintain lane and having an open motor vehicle alcoholic beverage.
