A man is on trial after being accused of setting 47 fires in just four days, in California.

Prosecutor Sean Carney told the jury that the man promised to “roast America” as revenge after his mother was ordered to be deported.

29-year-old Harry Burkhart, who is in the country illegally, was upset that his mother, Dorothee Burkhart, was ordered to be extradited to Germany.

Dorothee was a fugitive from her country. She fled in 2011. However, she was now ordered to be extradited to face fraud charges.

During her detention hearing, Dorothee repeatedly cursed America, and was kicked out, according federal marshals.

She claimed that her son, Harry, who is Autistic, needs her. For some reason, despite being illegal in the country, he was allowed to stay in the United States.

Harry decided to take revenge against the United States, by setting fires to cars. Many of the fires spread to homes.

He was seen on surveillance videos repeatedly buying flammable materials, which he used to set 19 fires in one night.

He went on a four-day arson spree from Hollywood to the San Fernando Valley.

There were no serious injuries or deaths as a result of the fires, but damages were estimated to be more than $3 million.

Harry was charged with dozens of felonies and could face 80 years in state prison if convicted. He has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.
