Sandy Springs police said that they have arrested 45-year-old Tonya Monroe, after being accused of causing the death of her 9-month-old grandson by forcing him to consume meth.

Monroe has been charged with murder, drug possession and cruelty to children. In court, she pleaded not guilty to the charges.

She was booked into the Fulton County Jail, pending a bail hearing. According to the police investigation, Monroe has a history of drug abuse, and the baby was born with brain damage.

His parents, Taylor and Hayden Shaw, agreed to move in with Monroe after she promised them that she quit her drug habit.

One night, Monroe walked into Taylor’s room and told her that the baby was blue. The parents believed that the baby died in his sleep.

However, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office found methamphetamine in his system.

Investigators believe that Monroe intentionally forced methamphetamine into the mouth of the 9-month-old child to kill him.
