A man was arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly slamming a car door into the head of his girlfriend because she refused to order pizza, according to police in Florida.

Westminster police said that they have arrested 27-year-old Joseph Benjaman Bowers, after being accused of assaulting his girlfriend following a day of drinking.

In court, Bowers pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault. He was booked into jail, and his bail was set at $15,000.

According to the criminal complaint, police officers responded to the 700 block of Velvet Run Court, on a report of a domestic dispute on Tuesday.

Officers spoke to the woman who had a cut near her left eye, and her eye was swollen and bruised. The woman told the officer that she was drinking wine with Bowers, when asked for pizza.

When she said that there was no need to order a pizza as she was planning to make dinner, Bowers got angry and started arguing with her.

When the woman tried to get into her car, Bowers came and shut the door in her face, causing a cut on her eye.
