(Scroll down for video) A mother died while saving her baby’s life after he fell from a boat and into the water.

The 33-year-old mother died while rescuing her son who had fallen into the water while she and her family were boating on Lake Powell in Utah.

Chelsey J. Russell of Colorado, was boating with family members when her 2-year-old son fell into the water.

Russell jumped into the water to save him from drowning while other family members continued boating.

By the time the family members managed to turn around and get to the mother and son, Chelsey was unconscious. Police said that neither she nor her son had been wearing life jackets at the time of the incident.

Russell managed to place her son on her chest to keep his head above the water so he was able to breathe.

When Chelsey and the boy were brought back to the boat, family members performed CPR on her. However, they were unable to revive her.

She was pronounced dead a short time after they reached shore. The boy was flown to a hospital, where he was treated and released.

San Juan County Sheriff's Office did not yet release the information as to why it took so long for the family to turn their boat around and pick up Chelsey and the boy.

She left behind her husband Ben Russell, a 5-year-old daughter and her 2-year-old son.
