A man was arrested on a charge of blackmail after threatening to expose secret gay men to their families, according to police in the United Kingdom.

Now, 22-year-old Liam Hull of Bedfordshire, has been sentenced to serve two and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to three counts of blackmail.

According to the criminal complaint, Hull used the site called Grindr to make contact with gay men.

He had set out to blackmail scores of victims across the south of the country, but many had been reluctant to help the police for fear their families would find out about their double lives.

Three victims found the courage to help the authorities. They were referred to as A, B, and C. Hull targeted men who were married with children and who were secretly using the site Grindr.

Hull would threaten to expose them unless they paid him money. One victim paid over one thousand pounds ($1,300) into a bank account that Hull had set up.

Another victim, a man who had been married for over 20 years and who had two grown up children, was forced to confess to his wife about his double life.

Another man suffered a mild stroke because of the worry and stress after Hull contacted him.
